The old REDES-Portal is online again. As you can see, it's no longer possible to answer to or to create a topic, it should only be used as an archive. You can still access all the old topics, but for communication please use the new forum: www.redes.lmu.de/forum.

Survey ''Motivation Barometer''
REDES Project
Dear REDES members,

We are all aware of the wonderful opportunities that REDES has to offer: international and interdisciplinary research projects, intercultural dialogue, the exchange of knowledge and experience between junior and senior researchers, and, last but not least, the chance to build lasting friendships with interesting personalities from all over the world.

Alexei, Jan and Kirsten have decided to look further into these opportunities and to find out whether or not REDES is actually able to fulfill its own promises and reach these goals. Are all of these opportunities available to everyone? In which way are certain groups more limited than others? And how are these opportunities perceived by each person?

The only way this is possible, is by gathering your impressions and experiences! So please take the time (not long, only 5-10 minutes!) to fill out our survey and help contribute to the improvement of REDES.

Please go to the following address: http://www.redes.lmu.de/misc/survey_muc_0207/index.htm

Thank you!
The Administration

User Profile
Portal News
In order to improve the search for research partners using the REDES portal, we have modified the user profile. Among others we added the options: Title, Affiliation and Research Project(s). In particular, the option Research Project(s) should allow you to list your personal interests and consequently help to match you with potential research partners. Moreover, the profiles can easily be accessed, for example, via the forum, by simply clicking the name of the person who posted the message. A list of all members can be accessed under Members List on the navigation menu under Info. We would appreciate it if you could update your personal information in your profile. To do this, enter the forum, click on Profile at the top of the screen, and fill out the form.

Thanks!

4th International Conference in Kiev: Call for papers
Relevant Events
On behalf of Organizing Committee, I would like to announce a Call for Papers for the fourth International Conference “Cultural Research: Challenges for the 3rd Millennium” which will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine, April 2-4, 2007.

The annual conference is organized by the Ukrainian group of Kyiv National Linguistic University which more than three years ago joined the multi-cultural REDES project, founded by Rio de Janeiro, Utrecht, and Munich universities. In accordance with the aims of the REDES project, the Conference is open to all junior and senior researchers with a special interest in empirical research of culture, literature in particular, and beyond. The purpose of the conference is to bring together researchers, students in particular, in various areas for exchanging ideas on recent progress made while investigating cultural differences in reading strategies as well as to present students’ work in progress. Besides papers being presented, there also will be the series of intensive workshops and plenary sessions.
The will be no participation fee involved, and, apart from academic activities, the conference will supply plentiful chances to informally discuss your current projects in progress and get advice and criticism from colleagues. An extensive cultural programme is planned, as Kyiv in spring is a fantastically beautiful city with fascinating natural landscapes, intriguing Old Rus history, cheap entertainments (opera and ballet in particular) – and very friendly students who will be ready to attend to any of your questions or necessities.

• Abstracts for papers should be 200-300 words, and must include a title, the author’s name, institutional affiliation, e-mail address, and equipment needed. Please, indicate on what day you would like to present your paper.
• Papers will be scheduled in 30 minute blocks which are divided into 20 minutes for paper presentation and 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

Please, send abstracts to redes_ua(at)yahoo(dot)com

by February 28, 2007.

Respectfully,
Lyudmila Ivanyuk,
The Organizing Committee member.
